Read on to find out how underdeveloped motor skills can mimic ADD, ADHD, learning disabilities, and many other abilities necessary for success in the classroom for students and at work for adults.

What Are Perceptional Motor skills?
An underdevelopment in any of the fourteen motor skills will prevent a person from achieving his or her fullest potential.  This affects not only an individual's scholastic achievement, but self-esteem as well.

Clues or indicators for underdeveloped motor skills may be as obvious as bumping into or tripping over things, walking in an unusual manner, or always being the last one picked for a team activity.

Clues may be subtle, such as always turning sideways at a desk or the table or scooting to the side of the chair, starting to answer a question and then forgetting the intended response, an inability to swallow pills, inability to follow sequential instructions or appropriate developmental activities.

Teenagers may be motivated to develop motor skills to become better athletes or decrease the likelihood of an automobile accident.  Adults may find it improves their ability to secure and retain desirable employment.

Do You Suspect ADD or ADHD?
A second-grader was observed by many parents and teachers who informed the mother that her child must be ADHD and should be put on Ritalin.  However, motor skill testing revealed a combination of developed motor skills whose symptoms mimic ADD and ADHD.  Within two weeks after beginning motor skill exercises specifically for the areas of underdevelopment, the mother began hearing comments such as, "What have you done with your child?  It's amazing!  Whatever it is, I want it for my child."

Grades Went From "F"s to "B"s in Three Subjects.
An eighth grader who is intelligent and studies diligently had not been able to pass a single history test in 22 weeks of school.  Reading comprehension problems made it difficult to grasp the main idea of what was read.  Therefore grades in English and science were also low.  Motor skill testing was done at approximately the same time that dietary changes of eliminating caffeine and excess sugar were made.

Within the first two weeks, the student could tell a difference in mental clarity.  Self-control improved and poor conduct grades became a thing of the past.  Grades of 81 and 80 were earned on history tests.  After approximately two months of daily motor skill activities, the student received a report-card grade of a "B" in English and Bible. This was quite a jump from the "F" received in those subjects on the previous report card.

The student can definitely feel a difference in mental abilities when motor skill activities are preformed or when they are not.  Forgetting to do motor skill activities one day while rushing to get to school on time for standardized testing resulted in a feeling of frustration for the student, but it also resulted in a greater determination to allow five minutes for motor skill activities in order to give the brain a "vitamin pill".

Speech Therapy Does Not Replace Motor Skill Development.
A four-year old in a special all-day pre-kindergarten program which includes speech therapy was noted to have extremely underdeveloped motor skills.  After about two months of daily performance of motor skill of motor skill activities, many improvements could be noted.  The child exhibited better self control, had the ability to focus and stay on task, and was able to write her name legibly for the first time.

Bright Students Struggle Too!
A seventh grader who maintained a high scholastic average which earned him the honor of taking the Duke University test commented the struggle he experienced when trying to study, "I need to be in a plain white room with no windows and no one to distract me."  Underdeveloped motor skills were the cause of the problem, and simple motor skill activities were recommended.

Adults Can Use This to Help at Work.

An adult saw improvements in cognitive ability at work by performing all of her motor skills in the morning before leaving for work as well as repeating some of the activities at the office throughout the day.  One morning as she was driving to work, she felt a complete lack of mental clarity which she had not experienced for a number of months.  then she remembered that because she had overslept, she had not had time to perform her motor skill activities. She determined that it would not happen again.

The entire family can join in these simple exercises to improve cognitive and learning abilities.  You will be excited to see how quickly progress is being made.  Order your free DVD of the Introduction to Motor Skills now.  For just $7.77 in shipping and handling, your DVD will be on its way to you.
